Presbyterian Church to host peace festival on December 2

Shillong, Nov 29: The Festival of Peace, an inter-faith gathering of indigenous Khasi people of the State initiated by Presbyterian Church, will be held on 2nd December at Madan Lyngktop Mawphlang.

To be organised by the Social and Economic Life Department (SELDD), KJP Synod Sepngi, the festival is an outcome of a semir held on 20th October last year.

It may be mentioned that the semir was participated by members of the Presbyterian Church, Seng Khasi (followers of the indigenous Khasi faith), Roman Catholic, Church of God and also Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong ka Bri u Hynniewtrep (conglomeration of traditiol heads), among others.

“The aim of this festival of peace is to end whatever divide and differences indigenous people had among themselves in the past,” Rev SS Majaw, senior executive secretary of KJP Synod Sepngi, said. Majaw said that it was also an endeavor on the part of its organiser that the gathering stirs the feeling of togetherness among the indigenous people who are following different faiths.

According to its organizers, the Festival of Peace also aims to strengthen the bond among the indigenous Khasi people whatever may be their social strata or belief.

The organiser said the Festival of Peace will have various programmes like folk songs, traditiol dance, traditiol skit and traditiol dress shows, among other activities.

There will also be sale of foods and other items at the festival.

Participants at the festival will include representatives from the Seng Khasi, Seng Khihlang, Seng Raij, Roman Catholic Church, youth members of KJP Synod Sepngi, KJP Synod Mihngi and Ri Bhoi Synod.
