President's Fire Service Medal for NRL Fire & Safety employees

Guwahati, Aug 16: Dulen Borah and Haresh Borah , Technical Assistants - Fire & Safety Department, NRL have been selected for the President’s Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service, declared on the occasion of Independence Day 2017.

The above honour  is in  recognition of their courageous and exemplary effort in effectively controlling and preventing further deterioration of  a disaster situation  that unfolded due to overturning of a bullet carrying propylene gas and the resulting hydrocarbon leak in the middle of NH-37 on Feb 27, 2017. The bullet was on its way to BCPL, Dibrugarh and the situation if not controlled on time, had the potential to cause further loss of lives and property.

At around 11.30 PM, information about the incident was received at NRL fire station and Fire crew left Fire station and reached the incident site around 12.30 PM.  NRL Fire crew joined the other state fire crew in extinguishing the fire at the nearby houses and was able to extinguish fire. This incident had the potential to become a major disaster. That it did not happen because of the great response, the commendable confidence, presence of mind and innovation that the team displayed to stop the leak from the tanker. This was stated in a press release.
