GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), September 25: The monitoring committee of Golaghat district raw tea leaves declared its minimum fixed price at Rs 15.60 per kg in Golaghat district.
Notably, in Golaghat district, despite having a good production the small tea growers have been facing huge losses since last month due to low market prices. They had staged protests against the district monitoring committee and government several times and demanded price hike of raw tea leaves in Golaghat district.
On Saturday evening, a meeting was held under president ship of Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat, Gourav Bothra for discussing the matter. This meeting was attended by the delegation of small tea growers association of Golaghat, members of Tea Board of India, officials of bought leaf factories and tea companies. The meeting decided to pay Rs. 15.60 per kg for raw tea leaves. A decision was also taken that action would be taken against those bought leaf factories and tea companies who refuse to receive the raw tea leaves from small tea growers due to insufficient gas supply and other problems.
The Deputy Commission ordered the bought leaf factories and tea companies to take up another process in the time of shortage of gas supply.
