Price rise still gging people

Silchar, June 30: The mercurial rise in the prices of daily-use items are causing lot of problems for the customers. The whole gamut of problems is related to the rise in the price. Dishonest shopkeepers are charging prices according to their own sweet will. Biplab Kumar Goswami, general secretary, on behalf of Grahak Suraksha Samiti, Cachar, has stated this in a press-release. It seems that they do not have the slightest apprehension about the presence of district administration. This has become a regular phenomenon and it is continuing. Dishonest shopkeepers have maged to earn a lot by indulging in such unscrupulous activities. Whenever they have been asked about the high price, they have repetitively uttered that ‘it is the usual one that we charge’.

People are the worst-sufferers as it becomes difficult for them to afford many items. In many districts of the state, district administration has come out in the markets to know about the various prices at which the items are being sold. Grahak Suraksha Samiti has welcomed the Deputy Commissioner S. Viswathan’s move to go for a round in the market so and find out the anomalies.  Acknowledging his steps, by the members of GSS has stated that such stern steps will instil fear into the shopkeeper’s mind and they will discontinue treading on dishonest ways.

To discourage such dishonest shopkeepers, it is essential on the part of the district administration to be on such searching spree. The members of GSS mentioned it in particular that it will be beneficial for the people if the Deputy Commissioner regularly visits the markets on a weekly basis.  They also suggested that visits to the weekly markets in the various parts of rural areas would also help the people a lot. The shopkeepers should know that no one is above the district administration.

GSS stated that the scerio of the fish markets of Silchar is no less horrible. Since long, fish-sellers have been exploiting people. Prices of tengra, hisla, ire, magur and pabda have skyrocketed. It is surprising to note that the fish-sellers sit on the area and space provided by the Silchar Municipal Board and charge so high prices. The Deputy Commissioner of Karinmganj district visited the markets and fixed the rates of many items. GSS has requested the Deputy Commissioner to take stern steps in this regard and has assured that the general people are with him. It is high time to stop customers from fooled by these dishonest shopkeepers. Usually, people do not want to bargain and thus ends up paying much higher price for an item.
