Primary school teachers pat State government

SHILLONG, Sept 4: On the eve of Teacher’s Day, primary school teachers of the state under the aegis of All Meghalaya Primary Teachers Association (AMPSTA) today met the government’s chief adviser Dr DD Lapang.

The AMPSTA expressed their gratitude to the state government for approving the extension of Death Cum Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) and Contributory Provident Fund (CPF) to the deficit non-government lower primary schools primary school teachers of the state.

A delegation of the AMPSTA was led by its president BB Marak and general secretary FC Shullai.

AMPSTA general secretary, Shullai urged the state government through Dr Lapang to send a notification by September 14 on the cabinet approval.

The AMPSTA general secretary also informed that on September 16 there will be a function at Nongpoh to commemorate the death anniversary Rev Thomas Jones.

Shullai also said that the AMPSTA was fighting for the social security scheme for primary school teachers for the last 20 years.

“We even knocked on the door of the court to demand for our rights. However through the earnest effort of the state government our demands have been fulfilled,” Shullai said.    

Meanwhile, the AMPSTA delegation also urged Dr Lapang to nudge the state government to restore the Head Teacher Allowance.

It may be noted that the state government on March 1, 2010 discontinued the Head Teacher’s Allowance.

On his part, Dr Lapang assured association to take up the issues put forth by the delegation today.
