Primary teachers' body condemns arrest of assistant teacher

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), Aug 8: The Golaghat District Primary Teachers’ Association expressed sharp reaction on Tuesday over the arrest of the headmistress of a primary school of Dergaon.

In a press statement, the president and secretary of the teachers’ body, Abedur Rahman and Chandradip Gogoi condemned the arrest of an Assistant Teacher of 2 No. Ikorani LP School on the charge of involvement in the suicide of a youth.  The president and secretary also said that few days ago a youth med Anupam Bora allegedly proposed to assistant teacher Jailakshmi Baruah while she was on her way to school. She refused his proposal and the matter was informed to his wife.

Later, Anupam Bora decided to commit suicide. Consequently, Dergaon Police arrested Jailakshmi Baruah on charge of involvement in the Anupam Bora suicide case and sent her to the Golaghat District Jail. In this regard, the Golaghat district Teachers’ Association condemned the arrest and denied  Jailakshmi Baruah’s involvement in the incident. They demanded release of the assistant teacher without any terms and conditions else they will gherao the Dergaon Circle Office on Wednesday.
