Prime accused in gaon gang-rape case bbed

GAON (HAIBORGAON), May 7: gaon police on Saturday were able to apprehend the prime accused in the May 5 gang-rape case at Islampur railway gate here.
According to police sources, the bbed accused has been identified as Rafik Ali alias Batsu of Islampati area. Soon after the incident,gaon police picked up another culprit and he was identified as Rafik alias Raja from the same location. On the other hand, on Saturday organizations like district unit of All Assam Students’ Union, Sadau Axom Pragatishil ri Sangstha, Democratic Youth Federation of India, Students’ Federation of India and others staged demonstrations and demanded immediate arrest and adequate punishment of all the culprits and also urged to take needful measures for the victim. Asking justice for the victim, all the organizations even submitted separate memoranda to the Deputy Commissioner of gaon and appealed to the district administration to ensure security to the women in the district.
The 19-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by a group of seven men at Amoni in gaon district on Monday night. The victim was later rescued by locals from a bush near NH-37 on Tuesday morning. She is from the Haiborgaon area in the district, some 54 km from here.
Police said the girl was with a boy med Raju, who along with his six friends and a driver, allegedly gang-raped the girl and then dumped her.
Sources said she was in touch with the accused on WhatsApp for the last one year. On Monday, it was her birthday and she met him for the first time. “The boy took her to Tezpur for shopping. While returning, they stopped near Amoni and got drunk. Then, the boy called some of his friends who raped her. Locals found her in the morning,” gaon police had said on Friday. The accused have also taken away her gold ring and other jewellery.
