Principal Secretary assures action on JMCH scam

JORHAT, June 9: A sudden visit by the Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Health & Family Welfare department, Sanjeeva Kumar on Monday took the officials of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) by surprise. The Principal Secretary interacted with the faculty including the Principal of the College and Chief Superintendent Debajit Hazarika and the Superintendent of the Hospital Bobbyjeet Goswami and discussed about the problems faced and tried to find ways to resolve pertinent issues. The hour-long meeting was also attended by ADC Health Bubul Lekharu and Joint Director of Health, Dr Mubidur Rahman.

Talking to The Sentinel, Principal Secretary Health, Sanjeeva Kumar said, “I interacted with the faculty and I tried to find out the problems and how best they can be resolved. The discussion revolved around infrastructural issues and the issues pertaining to manpower and we are trying to address them as soon as possible. We took a stock of the situation, especially the vacant posts of doctors and paramedics, and we are soon going to fill them up.”

The Principal Secretary, while responding to a question related to the multi-crore health department scam that has already created sensation in the State, said, “An FIR has been filed after doing initial investigations by an independent agency. I am going to have a review with the Deputy Commissioner and all concerned and this is one of the issues we are going to discuss and we are very serious about it.”
