Private nursing home ordered to pay compensation for 'medical negligence'

Golaghat, March 11:  A private nursing home in Golaghat has been ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 1.50 lakh by the Consumer Forum in Golaghat.

Golaghat Nursing Home has been ordered to pay the compensation for alleged medical negligence while performing surgery of a woman who was admitted in the nursing home. The woman delivered a girl child in the year 2005.  After her delivery her condition became critical and later she was taken and admitted at Down Town Hospital in Guwahati where it was proved that some elements remained in her uterus while performing surgery in Golaghat Nursing Home.

After that the victim’s husband filed a case against Golaghat Nursing Home in the Consumer Forum on June 11, 2007.  After six long years the victim filly got justice. The Consumer Forum gave the judgment recently and ordered the nursing home authorities to give an amount of Rs 1.50 lakh to the victim and her family.
