GUWAHATI, March 27: Priya Kalita of Assam played a vital role in Miami University Red Hawk Women’s Tennis Team to win against Ball State University of USA in Mid American Season Tennis Tourment which was held at Munice, India of USA. In Singles fil Priya defeated Isabelle Dohanics of Ball state University by 7-5, 6-2. In the crucial doubles match Priya partnering with Mila Lysova defeated Berger and Herrington (Ball State University) by 6-2. Few days back Priya was honoured by Miami University as “ Scholar Athlete” for her performances in this season as well as in the last seasons Tennis Tourments and also for her academic excellence in the first semester examition of the University.

Ukraine top Japan 2-1 in pre-World Cup friendly

Liege, March 27: Ukraine on Tuesday defeated Japan 2-1 in a pre-World Cup friendly match held in the Belgian city of Liege. Japan defender omichi Ueda scored an own goal to give Ukraine a 1-0 lead 21 minutes into the match. Tomoaki Makino netted the equaliser for Japan just four minutes before the end of the first half. However, Ukraine midfielder Oleksandr Karavayev scored the winner in the 69th minute. Japan are set to compete in Group H along with Colombia, Senegal and Poland in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, scheduled to kick off on June 14 in Russia, while Ukraine did not qualify. IANS
