Pro-Vice Chancellor backs NEHU VC

SHILLONG, June 16: The Pro-Vice Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has come to the defense of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, a day after the NEHU Teachers Association (NEHUTA) demanded the President of India to initiate an inquiry against the Vice-Chancellor for alleged manipulation of the minutes of EC meeting. Addressing the reporters here on Friday, the Pro-Vice Chancellor said, “It pains me to see that some teachers who claim themselves meritorious, very efficient and competent in teaching and research who have come to NEHU with an incentive to inflict the tribal people in the region but in reality in the back of their mind their whole intension is how to exploit the tribal people in this region.”

He added, “These teachers or group of people who have come here is not to serve.”

He further said the whole intension of NEHUTA is to create chaos and destabilize the various activities of the University.

Informing that the present salary of NEHU professor is around Rs. 1.60 lakhs, he said, “These teachers are like monsters they want more in the me of dignity and these teachers don’t want the people of Meghalaya to develop but instead want that the people should remain poor, ignorant and helpless.”

He further said that most of these teachers agitating for HASA do not think about the future generation of the tribal people.

“These teachers do not want development of NEHU and these so called teachers will go back to their homes but the local people will become the victim in the years to come,” the Pro VC said.

He further said lots of wrong information has been given to the media against the VC.
