Probe demanded into NGO's alleged involvement in fraudulent acts

From a Correspondent
PATHSALA, April 1: While the government is trying its best to promote various schemes for overall development for differently-abled persons, at that time, many social workers are exploiting the genuine schemes by adopting some NGO or development committee. One such incident came to light in Bajali subdivision of Pathsala in Barpeta district recently.
One Bhupendra Medhi of Ulla village in Barpeta district organized a training camp for the differently-abled persons at Azad Bhavan, Pathsala under the banner ‘One-day Professiol Training for Anganwadi workers, ASHA and SSA (Divgangjan)’, organized by NIEPMED, Cheni under the development of empowerment of persons with disability (Divangjan) in association with ASHABORI and supported by Bajali Gaon Unyan Samity Holistic Rehab Centre, Guwahati.
Medhi was supposed to pay Rs 200 to each differently-abled person who attended the programme but he distributed only Rs 100 per head and took sigtures of the attendees stating that they received Rs 200 each. This led to an instant commotion and heated arguments between the organizers and the attendees.
Reportedly, the associate of Medhi with his assistant assaulted some of the differently-abled persons when they raised questions. His assistant later ran away from the spot with all the documents.
On being alerted of the situation, Magistrate from SDO Civil office of Bajali subdivision, Jiban Krish Goswami arrived at the spot and intervened in the matter while the differently-abled trainees protested before the magistrate and demanded immediate punishment for the organizer. SDO Civil Pare Sarma ordered an inquiry into the incident and the NGO.
Later that day, a meeting was held in presence of the magistrate where Bhupendra Medhi confessed his fault and sought apology from all the trainees.
This NGO is believed to be involved in various other scams as well and the people have requested the administration to conduct a proper investigation into the incident.
