Problem for Lyngdoh: Local chieftains submit memorandum

SHILLONG, Jan 25: Posing a problem for State Minister of Urban Affairs Ronnie V Lyngdoh after the local chieftains of the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong, Upper Shillong submitted an ultimatum for his alleged retreating from his assurances. Ronnie V Lyngdoh, also happens to the local MLA, who had echoed similar voices on the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) expansion activities. As a Minister of the department Urban Affairs, he has been asked with questions relating to MUDA laws reaching the outskirts of the city.

Taking cue of the public complaints where the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has descended in the extended city limits to improve the by- laws, the conglomerate body of  local chieftains held the steps taken by state agency  as ‘unfortute’ and ‘unbefitting’. The local legislator turned Minister cum local legislator should fulfill his announcements.

“The Minister cum local MLA once announced that he will be the first to resign as a legislator, if MUDA intrudes into areas under the District Council,” stated Gilbert G Laloo of the conglomerate body on Wednesday.

“Let him live with the assurances but on our side an ultimatum has been served to the MDA that the clauses should not include our areas,” stated Laloo while questioning the Minister on the sudden incursion without the consent of the local responsible representatives and citizens. The ultimatum served on the Minister expires on January 30, before the public decided to take another course of action, added Laloo.

The ultimatum send to the Minister stated, “All charges by MUDA in respect of issue of occupancy certificates and labour cess related to construction works shall be exempted or scrapped off… The point is that the MUDA has no authority to interfere in any kind of electricity and water supply to any household.”

The Synjuk stated, “henceforth, any decision for introduction of any kind of administration laws to the respective areas faling within the jurisdiction of the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar shnong upper Shillong . Public opinion from the local is of paramount before taken into consideration to avoid any further complication.
