Problem of mass erosion in Barak river persists

SILCHAR, Nov 4: Residents and office bearers of different organizations and associations of Madhurbond GP and its nearby areas have demanded for immediate measures to carve the mass erosion and protection of the embankment of river Barak. They demanded the repair work should be started from Madhurbond GP up to Bagadar-Borjurai GP within Berenga-, a place under Silchar PS.
In this regard they submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar on Saturday. 
In the memorandum, they have stated that the condition is very serious and it needs immediate attention. The situation is very perilous owing to the mass erosion of Barak River and its embankment. 
The embankment has been completely damaged and is in a very fragile position. It may break any moment. A huge catastrophe will befall if immediate steps are not taken to repair the embankment area. Already around 10 families have been uprooted and forced to take shelter in a temporary place. The embankment connect is the only means of communication for the inhabitants of Berenga Part – V from Samjurai, Borjurai, Bethukandi, Kararpar and Gangapar towards the town of Silchar.
 People from all walks of life are facing immense trouble, as they have no other altertive means of communication. Therefore, taking immediate measures to stop the erosion and provision of relief for the dislocated families have become a must. They have demanded that an immediate spot visit be arranged and technical personnel be deployed in order to assess the situation. A copy of the memorandum has been sent to the Executive Engineer, Water Resource Department, Cachar.
