FROM A CORRESPONDENT

Silchar, Oct 29: Plight of tea labourers working in the Bhuvan Valley tea estate is still hanging as their problems related to availability of ration, weekly payment and bonus, have not been solved yet. In this regard, a meeting was held recently at Bhuvan Valley which was attended by P S Hallowan, assistant labour commissioner, Dinth Baroi, assistant general secretary, Barak Cha Shramik Union, J R Lalchim, ADC Cachar and in-charge, SDO (Civil) Lakhipur, along with tea labours, Bagan Panchayat and staff of the estate. They discussed at length about the re-opening of the tea estate, weekly payment and bonus.

The labourers were of the opinion that if the owner of the estate fails to clear their due on time, he should sell the tea estate. Labourers of three divisions, Didarkush, Matigar and Chenjuar, were there in the meeting. However, no fil decision has been taken yet. It has been decided that a meeting will be held with the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar along with the labour minister or any other minister at the DC office. It will be decided whether the estate will continue or cease to exist. J R Lalchim has requested labourers to maintain peace and amity.
