Professiol university Bill fails to get passage

Itagar, March 9: The Kameng Professiol and Technical University Aruchal Pradesh Bill 2017 tabled in the assembly on March 6 last by Education Minister Honchun Ngandam, failed to get a safe passage today after members pointed out various loopholes forcing Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Speaker T Norbu Thongdok to suggest modification of the clauses and to re-tabled it on March 14 next. Khandu expressed his reservation over the number of courses to be offered by the University and said that the clauses need to be modified as suggested by the members. The Bill was tabled with a view to develop education in the field of higher education and to establish and incorporate the Kameng Professiol and Technical University so as to provide to the students and teachers the necessary atmosphere and facilities for promotion of innovations, leading to proper structuring of course, new method of teaching and integral development of persolity for all round development of the state.

The university to be establish by Madhya Pradesh-based Prakhar Samajotthan Pragati Samiti at Tippi in West Kameng district is going to offer over 500 courses in various technical and professiol streams.

Majority of the members opposed various clauses of the bill and suggested for examining them including legal aspects after due consultations with experts.

The members also suggested for giving a serious thought about the demographic impact after the university is established in proposed 50 hectares of land allotted to the university.
