Progressive farmer honoured

Itagar, Nov 28: Engineer Ta Nikam Tara has been felicitated by ICAR – Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Bhubaneswar for successful implementation of fish based agri-horti livestock integrated farming system at Sojuli under Papum Pare district.

He was felicitated on Saturday by the Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare S S Ahluwalia during the North Eastern Tribal meet held at CIFA Regiol Research Centre in Kalyani, West Bengal, a press release informed here today.

Large number of farmers from the across the country along with prominent scientists from ICAR, CIFA and other institutes attended the programme.

During the day Nikam presented a power-point presentation about his integrated farming system and how it is providing job opportunities to the unemployed youths.

His integrated farming med Papum Pare Eco-Agro project is situated at Sojuli which is 35 KM away from Itagar. At present various eco-agro activities like tea, rubber, orange, fishery etc are being taken up in large scale under the project.

Large number of people hailing from Assam and Aruchal living along the boundary area are being employed in the said farm. Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister SS Ahluwalia assured that NDA government will extend every possible help to the farmers of the North East India. “The future of NE region lies in agro based industries. Our government will make every effort to realize this potential,” stated Ahluwalia.

The Assam Minister for PWD Roads and Buildings, Fishery’s and Excise Parimal Shuklabaidya was also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Tara has thanked Dr P P Chokroborty, Principal scientist CIFA (Kalyani) and Dr B C Mahapatro, principal scientist, CIFA (Bhubaneswar) for their immense contribution in developing the project by guiding and providing all the necessary facilities, the release added.
