Prohibition on restaurant service charge

DIBRUGARH, Feb17: The District Administration through a directive issued on Friday, has debarred all the hotel and restaurant owners in the district from charging 5% to 20% service charge from customers. In this regard, the District administration by a directive issued by State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Forum department and from complaints being filed by customers, has made it clear that under the legal rules of Consumer Protection Act, 1986, stringent action will be taken against all hotel and restaurant owners who have been forcibly pressing the customers to pay service tax in return for giving them various facilities.
