Prohibitive orders get effective

Shillong, Feb 2: With the announcement of the poll date for election to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly by the Election Commission of India and upon the directives of the Commission to take necessary preventive action to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls by implementing the code of conduct and prevention of defacement of public and private properties by all contesting candidates or political parties within the Sohra Civil Subdivision, the Subdivisiol Magistrate of the division has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting all contesting candidates or their agents or political parties from writing on walls, pasting of posters or papers or defacement in any other form, erecting and displaying of cut-outs, hoarding, banners etc on any public property and public premises. This order comes into force with immediate effect and will remain in force till the election process is over.

This apart, any person or group of persons carrying money above Rs 50,000 have been prohibited in the subdivision. An order has also been promulgated under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting any sort of agitation in the subdivision. This was stated in a press release.
