Prohibitory orders in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, March 27:  The District Magistrate, Kokrajhar, Thaneswar Malakar has promulgated Sec 144 of the CrPC in the district to prevent subversive activities by anti social elements or miscreants who might try to disturb the holding of free and fair elections in the BTC to be held on April 8.

The order would be in force till the completion of election process in the district.

The order prohibits holding of rallies, meeting in any public places without prior permission, taking out procession, bike rallies, cycle rallies in any public roads without obtaining permission, opening of party offices, candidates’ offices in any government land or by the public roads disturbing normal public and traffic movement, keeping party booth open beyond 7 pm in rural areas and 8 pm in urban areas, movement of vehicles of the candidates/ political parties after 7 pm for campaigning purpose in the interior areas, use or store of liquor/ wine in any party offices and keeping open of the wine shops and bars before 2 pm and after 8 pm. Besides, the order also prohibits the bursting of any variety of fire crackers/ fireworks, playing of loudspeaker before 8 am and after 8 pm, transporting of voters to the polling booth by candidates/political parties on the day of poll, burning of effigies of any political persolity and use of vehicles of government and semi government/PSU for electioneering. The District Magistrate said the order was issued ex-parte with a view to maintain peace, tranquility and to create conducive atmosphere for BTC election in a free and fair manner.
