Prohibitory orders on public meeting in Shillong

SHILLONG, Aug 5: Ahead of HSPDP leader Ardent Basaiawmoit’s scheduled programme to stage a public meeting at Malki ground in the city on Thursday, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills district has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC, prohibiting assembly of five or more persons with a radius of 500 metres of Meghalaya Secretariat area. The order prohibits obstruction of vehicular movement in the area and carrying of arms and other lethal weapons or any other item, material having the potential to be used as a weapon which can likely cause grievous injury or harm to any person or persons in and around Meghalaya Secretariat. The order has been enforced in view of the decision of the HSPDP to hold a public meeting at Malki Ground and contemplating to go on a procession towards the Meghalaya Secretariat main building, Shillong on Thursday.
