Prominent literary figure passes away

TINSUKIA, May 13: A prolific writer, reader, poet, renowned literary figure and former teacher of Senairam HS School, Tinsukia, Anubha Baruah collapsed on the dais while speaking during the Bordoloi Nagar Bihu programme here on Saturday evening where she was earlier felicitated for her outstanding contribution to Assamese literature. Though she was rushed to a nearby private hospital immediately, the doctors declared her brought dead.

A pall of gloom descended on the town as the news spread. Way back in 2002, she declared her mortal remains for medical cause. She was chairperson of Tinsukia branch of Asom Lekhika Samaroh and had written six books. She was also life member of Axam Xahitya Xabha. Several literary and socio-cultural organizations, Tinsukia Press Club and Tinsukia District Journalist Association expressed their shock and grief. She was 65. On Sunday, according to her wish, the mortal remains were handed over to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) at the initiative of Elora Bigyan Manch. She is survived by husband Purnananda Baruah, also a writer, former teacher and president of Tinsukia Press Club.
