JORHAT, Nov 13: Prominent sportsperson, actor, writer, sports organizer and advocate Jibon Phukan passed away at his Malow Ali resident on Sunday due to cardiac arrest. He was 89 and leaves behind his wife and a host of relatives. Jibon Phukan acted in many Assamese documentary films and telefilms that were telecast by Doordarshan. He acted in popular Assamese film Chameli Mamsahab. He made immense contribution in the field of sports by organizing various sports events like football, cricket and volleyball. Till the time of his demise he was actively associated with Jorhat Bar Association and Gauhati High Court. His demise was widely condoled by several organizations. The Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Hitendra th Goswami and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also condoled his demise.
