Proper study of literary traditions must to understand Indian heritage

Dibrugarh, Sept 7: “Knowledge of Sanskrit as well as Pali, Prakrit literature is needed to understand the ancient Indian heritage. Though we are now giving stress on Sanskrit literature, to understand our heritage, proper study of these literary traditions is a must. All these literary traditions equally carried forward the study of literature, philosophy, astrology, astronomy and science,” stated Professor, Department of Assamese as well as chairperson, Centre for Studies in Philosophy, Dibrugarh University, Dr va Kumar Handique, while delivering a special talk on ‘Sanskrit Literature and Indian Heritage’ at DHSK Commerce College  here on Wednesday.

“However, regarding the term ‘heritage’, still debate as well as different opinion is going on. As society is changeable, we should choose everything in a society based on logic and thus, heritage too becomes contemporary,” he added.

The special talk was organized by the Department of Assamese in association with Department of Commerce as well as Interl Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college. The function chaired by Dr. Khanindra Mishra Bhagawati, Principal of the institution, was anchored by Dr. Bhupesh Bhagawati, Head of the Department and Associate Professor, Department of Commerce in the college. Pulin Rajbongshi, Vice-Principal and Associate Professor, Department of Banking of the college graced the occasion as the special guest.

Earlier, bajyoti Dutta, Head of the Department of Assamese of the institution stated the aim and objective of holding the function. Dr. Tanka Prasad Upadhyaya, Coorditor, IQAC and Associate Professor, Department of Banking offered vote of thanks to the gathering comprising of teachers as well as students of the institution.
