 From a Correspondent

PATHSALA, April 17: On Monday activists of different parties, organizations, association, institutions, student unions and theatre staff of Bajali subdivision resorted to sit-in in front of the Hari Mandir premises at Pathsala in Barpeta district, in protest against the assault on media persons at the rehearsal house of Rajmukut Theatre at Bangaon in Bajali subdivision.  On the night of April 12, the producer of Rajmukut theatre, Mas Kalita was cornered by the technicians and actors of the theatre for non-payment of their wages.  On being informed by the technicians and actors of the theatre, a group of media persons arrived at the rehearsal house of the theatre at Bangaon.  The arrival of the reporters was vehemently opposed by some employees of Rajmukut Theatre, allegedly at the behest of Mas Kalita.  The media persons were asked not to collect information about non-payment wages to the employees or to report the same. Soon the situation got heated up with the reporters posing questions on the issue of non-payment of wages to the aggrieved employees.  This was reportedly followed by a section of staff of the theatre physically assaulting the media persons while the cameras of such scribes were also damaged.

In protest against this incident, the protest was staged on Monday and the protesters also submitted a memorandum to the SDO civil of Bajali through the magistrate on duty demanding immediate arrest of the guilty persons involved in the assault incident and exemplary punishment. Already three persons, including Mas Kalita, have been arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
