Protest against auction of oil fields continues

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
SIVASAGAR, July 12: Nikhil Bhatat Krisak Sabha (NBKS) has heavily opposed privatization of 12 oil fields of OIL and ONGC. To protest the move of the Centre, NBKS also staged a sit-in  protest in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar on Tuesday.  “We are against privatization of any oil-field of the State. This move is against the people of Assam and so we demand the Central Government to reconsider the decision,” the protesters said. On the other hand, AITUC also organized a labour meet on Tuesday at Rongpurjyoti Club on the oil-field issue. AITUC state president Munin Mahanta said that they would not consider Centre’s decision of privatizing of 12 oil-fields of Assam. AITUC also threatened that if the government stuck with its decision regarding auctioning of oil-fields, then they, along with other tiolist and tribal organizations of Assam, would launch severe agitation against the government.
