A Correspondent

Dibrugarh: Activists of the All Assam Nibanuwa Parishad (AANP) staged a sit-in on Thursday to oppose the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. Protesting close to the DC office, general secretary of AANP, Navajyoti Neog slammed the Central and State governments for extending their support to the bill.

Terming the bill as a big threat to the identity of Assamese community and culture, the members categorically stated that they would never accept the proposed legislation. During the upheaval, cries censuring the government rent the air. The members also submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister through the DC demanding revocation the bill. In their memorandum, they demanded that the matter be discussed with utmost seriousness in the upcoming sessions of both the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha, followed by a decision in favour of the indigenous people of Assam.
