LAKHIMPUR, June 19: As per the decision taken, the Lakhimpur district unit of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS) started distribution of 1 lakh leaflets among the common people of the district on Monday against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill with a view to aware them on the controversial bill. Along with this move, the organization also launched a toll free mobile number 08030636455 in order to oppose the bill by giving a missed call to it. Lakhimpur district chairperson of the organization, Chinu Saikia, secretary Raju Singha, PCPD adviser Rebot Gogoi, and executive member of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Indramoni Rajkumar inaugurated both of the moves. District organizing secretary of MASS, Hekim Ali, regional chief organizing secretary Ibrahim Ali and finance secretary Hemanta Phukan appealed to the people to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 jointly. “A good number of people extended their encouraging support to the leaflet distribution programme as well as to the toll free number on the very first day. A person from Norway also opposed the Bill by giving a missed call to the toll free number. We will submit the records of those missed calls to the Union government,” Raju Singha said. The Postal Employees’ Union also extended support to these movements of the organization.
