Protest against delay in completion of Jatakia water supply project

From a Correspondent

Joysagar, May 25: Villagers of greater Jatakia village under Jaimati Gaon Panchayat of zira subdivision, Sivasagar district are being deprived of pure drinking water facility provided under the State Government schemes.

The deprived villagers therefore staged a protest against the Water Supply Department of zira subdivision on Wednesday. The villagers alleged that the State Government had released a total Rs. 66.22 lakh fund for renovation of the Jatakia water supply project. But after completion of only 30 per cent of construction work, the contractor stopped his work due to some mysterious reason.

Long delay in completing the project and also alleged anomalies in the fund allotted by the State Government are the main reasons for the project not being fully functiol, alleged the villagers. A greater part of the Maduri Tea Estate was also in the map of this water supply project and basically the tea garden workers do not have access to pure drinking water facility as yet.
