Protest against deplorable condition of historic -Ali road

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, MAY 8: AASU and Asom Se, Titabor sub-division unit along with hundreds of school students from various schools under the Titabor sub-division, blocked and shouted slogans over the worst and dilapidated road condition of the historic -Ali road for several hours near Dholi, under Titabor police station on Monday.

Vehicular traffic was stranded for several hours as the protesters stood in the middle of the road in the worst part of the -ali road.

The historic -Ali road that connects Jorhat and Titabor, stretches 18 km from Doss and Co to Titabor Tin Ali, is in a deplorable condition which has irked commuters for the past seven to eight months.

Blaming the former government who had misused funds sanctioned by the North Eastern Council (NEC) during the second tenure of the Tarun Gogoi government, Putul Dutta , the adviser to the central committee, AJYCP,  said that the work was allotted to MP Agarwalla, a renowned contractor and who was allegedly close to the former PWD minister. The work was totally below standard and of poor quality, he alleged.

Dutta said that the commuters, especially patients coming from border areas between Assam and galand like Changpang, Wokha, Panikhaiti, Medulajan, Mariani, Borhula, Merapani, Golaghat and Titabor, had to face uphill task in most part of the 18-km stretch road between Titabor to Jorhat, as the road was dotted with potholes.

Though several organization like AJYCP, ATTSA, local Mahila organizations, school-college students and AASU had protested several times against the deplorable road condition, Tarun Gogoi, who is the sitting MLA for the fourth consecutive term, has allegedly done nothing in this regard and takes a different route to visit his constituency once every month.

Dulen yak, BJP tea cell president, said that during the past three terms of Tarun Gogoi’s government in Titabor, no concrete development could be witnessed in the constituency. There  was looting and misuse of fund sanctioned through various State and Central government schemes.

Sources further said that at a time when the rendra Modi government is laying stress on the development of tourism sector in Titabor, there are three resorts owned by North East Heritage where foreign tourists stay at Thengal Manor, Banyan Grove and Kaziranga Golf Resort and visit Majuli, Sivasagar, Chariadew and even Kaziranga. The pathetic condition of the road also proves the lackadaisical attitude of the present government which is delaying the repair of the road.
