From a Correspondent

Haflong, Dec 24: In a continued process of protest against the reported inclusion of Dima Hasao and the establishment of satellite council, several organizations, including Jadikhe isho Hosom, Dimasa Mothers’ Association, Dimasa Women Society, All Dimasa Students’ Union, Dimasa Students’ Union and Dimasa Youth Association, demonstrated at the Veer Sambudhan statue (Dimasa freedom fighter) holding the tiol tricolour on Sunday.

Urging both the Central and State governments, the protesters said they were not against galim but they opposed the inclusion of Dima Hasao in galim and also establishment of satellite council in Dima Hasao which they considered as total ignorance and negligence of the people of Dima Hasao who always considered themselves as Indians. They never went against the country and therefore it should be the prime responsibility of the Government of India to save them as Indians. The Government of India should not compromise the territorial integrity and also not cause any breach of peace among the communities, otherwise they would be compelled to launch a vigorous agitation soon, said the leaders of the organizations.

Talking to the media, Kailen Daolagupu, president, Jadikhe isho Hosom, Rohit Bathari, Dimasa Youth Association, and Agnes Gorlosa, Dimsa Mothers’ Association said, “Today we are demonstrating holding the tiol flag with honour as proud Indians, but if the government does not listen to our pleas we will be bound to dishonor the tiol flag, which we never want.”

They warned that the people of Dima Hasao would not sit quietly if the  government, even after their repeated approaches, failed to understand their suffering and would be bound to go for stronger agitation like boycotting tiol festivals like Republic Day.
