Protest against Education Minister

IMPHAL, May 8: Several young students of Government high school, Ithat Khunnou in Bishnupru district today created n unprecedented scene in the old secretariat where the education minister Okendra Moirangthem sits. However despite their novel protests they could not meet the minister.They had come all the way from their Ithat village in buses armed with their text books and small bags of rice which is meant for mid day meal. They entered the grill gate of the secretariat catching the security personnel pping. They shouted slogans saying that they have no need for the text books and mid day meals if there is no class in their school. They also displayed banners in this regard.

They were pushed back by the policemen and women. However no arrest was made which is a wise decision since arrests would have created more problems. Parents and local youth leaders said that long time back the teachers from this school had been transferred away. The youths’ clubs and parents had submitted numerous memorandum to the education minister Okendra Moirangthem to send other teachers. However till date no such teachers have been sent with the result that the students have been denied classes.Having no altertive the students had adopted the novel protest today. The education minister told waiting reporters that he has instructed the officials to send the teachers within Wednesday. If need be appointments will be made. However he did not explain why he has not sent the teachers so long despite the fact that representations had been made to him.
