Protest against rape of 14-year old, rape accused absconding

PATHSALA, Feb 15: Dakshin Bajali Anchalik unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), with the local public of the area, protested against the rape of a minor girl and blocked the roads at Malipara  connecting Sarthebari, Tihu and Pathsala in Bajali subdivision of Barpeta district. A 14-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by a man in the Malipara area on Monday evening. An FIR was lodged in this regard. The victim is a student of Class X. Dakshin Bajali AASU has demanded immediate arrest of the culprit and stringent punishment for him. The rape accused is absconding.

 Officer-in-charge of Patacharkuchi Police Station, Biren Kalita, said, “Adhoy Malakar (45) who was allegedly involved in the incident, is still on the run.” The police official also informed that they had started the investigation. “A case has been registered against the culprit at Patacharkuchi PS,” police official Kalita added. Today more than 200 protesters participated in the protest. Raju Ahmed, secretary of Dakshin Bajali Anchalik unit of AASU said, “We will continue their protest if Bajali Police fail to arrest the accused within 48 hours.” Later, Bajali Circle Officer Joydeep Mahanta (ACS) with Bajali Police and CRPF jawans came to the spot to control the situation.
