Protest at Adokgiri turns violent

Boko, February 17: Garo people along the Assam-Meghalaya border took out a massive protest rally at Adokgiri on Wednesday in protest against the kidpping of a businessman, Laldev Shah (Basu) on Monday.

The villagers informed the police about three but after the rally, the public allegedly wanted to punish the suspected persons themselves. The irate mob then pelted stones at the police station when the police refused to hand over the suspects to the mob.  Police had to fire four rounds in the air to disperse the public. A media person, Nipan Talukdar, was injured.

The Farmer Association of Adokgiri said that they had given 24 hours to the militants to release Laldev Shah unconditiolly, otherwise after 24 hours they would start operation along with Indian Army and police to b the militants and release Laldev.
