 From a Correspondent

HAFLONG, July 18: At least five leaders of NCHAC Employees’ Union and other employees were arrested on Tuesday by the police and few protesters along with police personnel were injured in connection with the attack on CEM Debolal Gorlosa on Tuesday.  The NCHACEU has been continuing their agitation demanding salary and other demands for several days and on Tuesday, the activists gathered on the road in front of the NCHAC office and prevented the entry of Executive Members and even the Chief Executive Member, demanding assurance from the CEM on the spot. But the CEM invited them for discussion in his office. Few among the protesters indulged in pelting stones and obstructed the CEM from entering the council office.

To disperse the crowd and to make way for the CEM, Haflong Police resorted to lathicharge on the protesters and also used tear gas at the Council gate to bring the situation under control. At this few protesters sustained injuries and were later sent to Haflong Civil Hospital for treatment. Police personnel were also injured in this incident.

Before the incident, the Magistrate, Additiol Superintendent of Police along with police team rushed to the spot to intervene as the dhar staged on the road had disrupted traffic.

Meanwhile, a press meet was held by the employees’ union where NCHACEU president Prasan Hasnu condemned the incident and said that since inception of NC Hills Autonomous Council, no such violence had taken place where many employees sustained severe injuries during the incident.
