Protest by students of Homeopathic College continues

JORHAT, March 6: The indefinite agitation by the All Assam Homeopathic Medical College Students’ Union entered its eight day. The students’ union came down heavily on State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly allowing Assam Police personnel to lathicharge the students.  “We got admission in this college on merit basis and we want the authority to take proper initiative,” said the  agitating students at the JK Saikia Regiol Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday.

Anisur Rehman, the general secretary of AAHMCSU (All Assam Homeopathic Medical College Students’ Union), said, “There are three government homeopathic colleges in Assam - in Jorhat, gaon and Guwahati -in which students takes admission based on merit through entrance examition. These colleges lack basic facilities and infrastructure. The colleges do not have hostel facilities and adequate teaching staff. Many departments do not have teachers to conduct classes and college OPDs are functioning properly. There is no minimum facility to serve people in emergency.” The general secretary further said that in spite of tiol Ayush Mission and separate Ayush Ministry formed by the Government of India and separate Ayush Directorate in Assam, homeopathic doctors in Assam do not receive benefits and placement opportunity even though homeopathy was an integral part of Ayush.
