Protest by tea labourers

Chabua, March 6: All Assam Tea Tribes Students Union’s Chabua unit held a protest in front of Chabua Tea Garden. The protest was led by its chairman Bimal Bag. They were protesting against the wage pact signed by Axom Chah Mazdoor Sangha with tea companies. The effigies of ACMS chairman Bhimanda Tati and secretary Dileshwar Tati’s were burnt by the protestors. According to AATTSU, the tea labourers had demanded a daily wage of Rs.333 per day along with other welfare schemes. But the Chah Mazdoor Sangha had fixed the wage at Rs. 113 per day. The agitators also added that if the tea labourers are not paid well, the Congress government will be boycotted by the community in future.
