Protest meeting against intolerance

Jorhat, November 26: The Sanmilit garik Mancha, Jorhat organized a protest meeting against intolerance and the Assam Governor’s recent remark, on Thursday at the Bisturam Baruah Hall in Jorhat.

In the meeting a Tai Ahom community leader Heromba Prasad Phukan said, “The great Assamese Siu-ka-pha tried to make Assam as Bor Asom, irrespective of caste, community and religion. We should follow the principles of this great king of Assam and should avoid doing politics in the me of caste, community and religion.”

Jakir Ahmed, a physician and a social worker said, “India is a secular and democratic country and we should protest against politics in the me of caste, community and religion.”

Dr. Jakir Ahmed, president of central club, Gulap Hazarika, senior citizen of Golaghat, Robchond Mundra Jarkhand Sangrami Mancha, Rupok Saikia of Kakojan delivered their speech regarding intolerance. The meeting was anchored by Dr Debabrat Sharma, organizer and Principal of Jorhat College.

A committee was formed in the meeting to fight against intolerance with Gupal Goswami as a president, Hemen Bora as a working president and Jayanta Madhab Dutta as secretary.
