Protest rally at Haflong to demand arrest of Prakanta Warisa

Haflong, Dec 24: Demanding immediate arrest of Prakanta Warisa, Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) of Gunjung constituency of NC Hills Autonomous Council, the people of Gunjung took out a protest rally at Haflong on Saturday.

The rally was participated by a large of people from Gunjung constituency who marched from the Cultural Institute Hall to the office of the Deputy Commissioner and submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal through the Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao.

The memorandum, signed by the president of Rangmaishadi SHG and others, stated that the Gunjung constituency had not seen development under the leadership of Prakanta Warisa in comparison to other constituencies of Dima Hasao because of his alleged nepotism. Also, a woman had lodged an FIR at Haflong Police Station against him alleging molestation.

Therefore, the people of Gunjung constituency are not happy with Warisa and want the intervention of the Chief Minister to arrest and punish Warisa as per law, stated the memorandum.
