Protest rally by ATASU

MARGHERITA, Sept 5:  Activists of the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) Margherita Regiol Committee took out a torch rally which started from Margherita Central Field Playground to Margherita Block Tiniali  recently in protest against the alleged gang rape and brutal murder of a B Com first semester student of Margherita College on August 29.

More than 200 ATASU members took part in the protest rally and shouted slogans.  Chow Pappu Borgohain, president, Chow Bikash Dehingia, working president and Chow Jayanta Konwar, secretary of ATASU Margherita Regiol Committee led the protest. Chow Pappu Borgohain said that in Margherita Subdivision there were many illegal coal depots and brick kilns where many suspected Bangladeshi tiols work as daily labourers without any proper verification from Margherita Administration and Margherita Police.

He said that those accused of the heinous crime against the B Com student should get maximum punishment and suspected Bangladeshi tiols should not get work in the coal depots and brick kilns.

A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister and Tinsukia District Deputy Commissioner which was received by Margherita Police Station Inspector Hiranya Kumar Borah on behalf of the Margherita Sub Divisiol Officer (Civil).
