Protest rally in Bongaigaon demanding better security

Bongaigaon, Nov 20: People vented their anger against alleged failure of security system by taking out a massive mass rally in Bongaigaon town on Friday. This rally could be said to be the immediate impact of the murder of Raheswar Ray (50), a resident of Dolaigaon area of Bongaigaon and a driver by profession. “He was kidpped by kidppers on October 28 while going to Fulsilling area in Bhutan taking a passenger who hired his Innova car (AS-19-G3823). His car was recovered in the bank of Tirimari river under Basugaon PS of Chirang district the next day. The kidpper had already called up the family of Raheswar and demanded Rs 20 lakh for his release. Police started investigation and first arrested one Swrwng Brahma. During interrogation, Swrwng admitted that he along with three partners had murdered Raheswar and buried the body in the Tirimari river bank. And filly, police recovered his body on November 17 from the bank of Tirimari river,” Imdad Ali, Additiol SP, Bongaigaon said.

After recovery of Raheswar’s body, people of Bongaigaon took out a mass rally today under the banner of Dolaigaon Development Committee where several organization including, BJP, AGP, Congress, AKRSU, AASU, Bengali Youth Federation, North Bongaigaon Mahila Samiti and many others had participated. After moving through the town, the rally concluded in front of the DC office, Bongaigaon where they submitted a memorandum demanding justice and compensation for the family of Raheswar and providing security to the common people. They also demanded for establishing a police outpost in the west side of Dolaigaon village for strengthening the security system of the area.
