Protest rally taken out against Gohain and Shiladitya's comments

Silchar, Nov 8: A mass protest rally has been organized by a number of socio-cultural bodies under the banner of Sammilito Sanskritik Mancha against Rajen Gohain, Union Railway Minister for State and Shiladitya Dev’s, MLA, Hojai remarks on Hindu Bengali, here today. Both Rajen Gohain and Shiladitya Dev have passed statements that have hurt the sentiments of Hindu Bengali. Protesters were of the opinion that such statements would create division in the minds of the people of both the Valleys of Brahmaputra and Barak and also cause turmoil in the present political scerio of the state.

 The rally started near the statute of Khudiram Bose at Park Road of this town and converged in Rangirkhari point. A large number of people came down to the streets in support of the rally. Members of various socio-cultural and civic bodies, garikatwa Suraksha Sangram Committee, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, Barak Upatakya Bango Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan, took an active participation in the rally. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and AIUDF supremo Badruddin Ajmal have also said similar things in the recent times. In addition, All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and some Leftist parties have also voiced the same things by indulging in passing similar statements.

 In addition to the mass rally, advisors, conveners, and members of garikatwa Suraksha Sangram Committee, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, have also condemned the statements made by Rajen Gohan and Shiladitya Dev. The conveners of the Committee, Sashanka Shekhar Paul, Pradip Kumar Deb, Arunngshu Bhattacaharjee, Provash Chandra Sarkar amd kib Hussain Choudhury, have opined that it is very heartbreaking that such statements are being passed which may lead to mass unrest.
