Joysagar: The Sivasagar District Joutha Sangrami Mancha staged a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 on Tuesday and blocked the busy Sivasagar NH-37 near the Dorika Bridge.

The local bodies sharply criticized the Union Government as well as the State Government and alleged that the BJP government had become insensitive to the pleas and agitations by the people. The Mancha leaders also alleged that the BJP was dreaming to capture power with the divide-and-rule policy and hence it was trying to create differences among people over religion and languages.

Meanwhile, the Sivasagar AJYCP took out a torchlight rally through the town on Monday evening to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

DOOMDOOMA: The All Assam Bengali Yuba-Chatra Federation (AABJYCF), Doomdooma Regional Committee and Bangabhashi Asomiya Samaj, Doomdooma took out a torchlight procession for the first time at Doomdooma on Sunday evening to register their protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019. While going through the main thoroughfares of town, they shouted slogans and then assembled before the Doomdooma Bangiya Durgabari where a protest meeting was held. Deben Deka, secretary of Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha, exhorted the people to remain alert against the divisive policies of the government and to frustrate their attempt to drive a wedge between the Assamese and Bengali community.
