Protests against fuel price hike

JOYSAGAR, May 26: The Brihattar Axomiya Yuba Mancha (BAYM) Joysagar regional committee members staged a protest against the Union Government near Rangghar Chariali, Joysagar on Saturday.

The organization criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their failure in checking the steep hike in prices of petroleum products in recent times. Due to the price rise of petrol and diesel, bus fares and prices of essential commodities had also increased, thereby adversely affecting the common people.

The protesters burnt the effigy of the Prime Minister and Union Petroleum Minister in Rangghar Chariali. Later, they have also submitted a memorandum to the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner.

Meanwhile, the Sivasagar Zila Grahak Sureksha Samittee has also opposed the recent price hike in fuel price and prices of essential commodities. The Sivasagar district All Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad and the Students Federation of India (SFI), Sivasagar unit, also staged protest against price hike and the leaders of the organizations criticized the BJP-led Union Government for its failure to control price hike.
