Providential escape for Manipur MLA

IMPHAL, February 24: The president of the state unit of TMC and MLA Shyamkumar Thouojam had a lucky escape yesterday following timely detection of death traps.

He was planning attend a marriage ceremony in his constituency. Some construction works are going on there. He had to pass through the road under repair.

If he had gone, he and his entourage might have been killed. So were the construction workers there.

He demanded an explation from the persons who planted the booby trap dubbing them cowards.

He disclosed that there were two earlier bomb attacks against him. It may be recalled that there was an ambush by person who brandished automatic rifles.

When he and his guards retaliated, the gunmen fled inside an army camp.

The sentry did not allow the minister to enter. Though he had contacted the Home Minister, it was of no help to him.

In another incident, a bomb was found at Heingang near Imphal. Police defused it later.
