FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Aug 9: The Pr Students’ Union (PSU) on Tuesday sought clarification from the state government within one week on the collection of money by Myndihati Weigh Bridge, East Jaintia Hills district from trucks and other vehicles without prior information to the public. Addressing newsmen here, Kyrshan Rymbai, president of PSU said, “We will give a one week deadline to the authorities concerned to issue clarification on the sudden collection of money from the Weigh Bridge at Myndihati.”

He said the sudden collection of money by this Weigh Bridge has puzzled the people of the region and the vehicle drivers.

“In the past this Weigh Bridge used to collect money only from trucks transporting coal however suddenly they have started collecting from trucks carrying food supply etc.., at the rate of Rs. 2000-3000,” he said.

He informed that they had been receiving countless complaints from truck drivers and truck owners on the collection of money from the Weigh Bridge right from 3rd of this month without any notice to the general public. He alleged that the collection of money by the weigh bridge is happening without even the handing out of receipts to the truck drivers.
