Public hearing in school on working day

NRL's Bio Refinery Project

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

Golaghat, May 24: Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) located at Numaligarh in Golaghat is again in the news for the wrong reasons. This time the people residing in the nearby areas of the refinery have stated that they are worried over the proposed Bio Refinery Project of the NRL.

The NRL authorities are planning to set up a bamboo-based Bio Refinery Project at Ouguri village. The people residing in Ouguri and adjoining villages are against this project as it will create air and noise pollution and the most important thing is the location of the bio project in an Elephant Corridor. On the other, the State Pollution Control Board has decided to conduct a public hearing in this regard on June 6 at Rajabari Letekujan ME School under Marangi Mouza.

Remarkably, the day of public hearing is a working day in the school and the school authorities stated that they were not informed by the authorities concerned and hence they could not take any decision now. Now this step of the State  Pollution Control Board is creating sharp reaction among the  masses in Numaligarh. NRL’s Bio Refinery Project has been opposed by a large section of people.
