From A Reporter

SHILLONG, Oct 12: The Hynniewtrep Achik tiol Movement (HANM), East Jaintia hills has demanded the state government to immediately suspend the proposed public hearing for constructing a limestone mine on October 25, at Thangskai village.

HANM-EJH president Ency Shadap in a statement today said that the Movement demanded that the government should revoke the proposed public hearing for extraction of limestone from Thangskai village by the Ms/Dalmia Cement factory. Pointing out that the state government does not have any mining policy, he said “We are surprise that the government is eager to grant permission for holding the public hearing for the limestone mining despite not having any mining policy.” The NGO leaders further said that the action of the Meghalaya government is not acceptable to the people of the region. The Movement has also demanded the government to immediately release a public clarification on its decision to permit the company to extract limestone from the region.
