Public meeting cancelled after stone pelting

FROM A REPORTER
NONGSTOIN, July 9: The public meeting organized by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) meant for the two lane road project held at Nongstoin Market on Saturday turned chaotic when unknown miscreants threw stones using catapult targetting the people attending the meeting.  During the incident, Sordar of Domshrah village, including a reporter, received minor injuries when stones hit them.  However, police personnel deployed there failed to apprehend the miscreants. The incident took place when Ricky Sohlang, chairman of the JAC, started addressing the meeting. Later the meeting was cancelled. Sohlang along with other JAC members, while speaking to media persons here, strongly denounced the incident. “We demand the implementation of the road project and not uranium mining,” said Sohlang, stating that the delay in issuing the NOC by the KHADC might prompt the Ministry to shift the project to some other place.
