Public resolution to scrap NHPC project in Tawang recommended

Itagar, June 6: The Committee on Hydroelectric Power Project of NHPC Stage-I & II in Tawang has recommended to the state government for considering the resolution adopted during a public meeting in Tawang to reject the NHPC’s stage-I & II projects. In his letter to the Chief Minister, Committee Chairman Rev Thegtse Rinpoche apprised that the project affected people and other stakeholders during the meeting have unimously resolved to reject the project. The meeting convened by the Tawang Deputy Commissioner on February 14 this year was attended by Save Mon Region Federation (SMRF), Panchayat members, representatives from the state government and Tawang Mostery, public leaders and the project affected people.

The committee, based on the popular resolution adopted in the meeting, urged the state government to immediately communicate with the NHPC authority and direct it to scrap its Stage-I and Stage -II projects in Tawang.

It also urged the chief minister to communicate with the central government in this regard.
